International
In the run-up to the IDoR 2019 celebrations, the World Health Organization (WHO) together with the International Society of Radiology (ISR) will organise a webinar in Spanish on November 6 at 4 pm CET. The webinar will discuss the present and future of diagnostic imaging in sports medicine, and balanced strategies that maximise the benefits of radiology in sports medicine and minimise the risks. The webinar is free, registration is required.
The publisher Elsevier celebrates the International Day of Radiology 2019 by publishing a dedicated Sports Imaging Article Collection, with free online access until the end of the year.
Argentina
For the first time this year, the recently founded Sociedad Argentina de Radiología Pediátrica (SARP) will join the celebrations for the International Day of Radiology. With the intention of spreading knowledge and their experience, the SARP will organise different meetings all through the country, addressing the essential role of paediatric imaging in sports injuries, with a particular focus on the specific detection and prognosis in childhood. Armenia
The Armenian Association of Radiologists is organising a celebration dedicated to IDoR 2019 and invites everyone on November 8 at 7 pm to the New Yans Music Hall in Yerevan. Places are limited, and entry fee is 15,000 AMD (equivalent to around €28).

The Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association (ADIA), which represents radiology practices throughout Australia, is organising a function at Parliament House in Canberra on October 23 to celebrate the International Day of Radiology. The University Clinic for Radiology at the University Clinic Graz, Styria, will celebrate IDoR 2019 on November 8 with a special event highlighting the important role of imaging in healthcare and its benefits for patients.
Brazil
To celebrate IDoR 2019, the Liga Acadêmica de Radiologia e Dignóstico por Imagem (LARDI-UFTM) has arranged a special event at the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro in Uberaba. The event will be attended by leading specialists in the area of MSK radiology, with the intention of disseminating knowledge about sports imaging. Bulgaria
The Bulgarian Association of Radiology, together with a great number of dedicated radiologists, will celebrate IDoR 2019 by organising events and festivities in the radiology departments of hospitals in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna, on November 8.
The team of the Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital in Sofia is celebrating IDoR by publishing a video they have created with the message “What would you do without us? Celebrate with us!”. It can be seen on YouTube here.
Croatia
Radiology staff at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, University Hospital Osijek, contacted local athletes who are also national sport representatives to come and celebrate #IDOR2019 with us. A short lecture on role of radiology in sport injuries was given. The event was covered by local and national media.
Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic, radiologists will celebrate IDoR 2019 with a one-day event on November 8. The event is held in Faculty of Health Studies, University Pardubice (FHS, UPa) in Pardubice along with the Hospital Pardubice Region, University Hospital Hradec Králové, Oncological and Radiological Center Multiscan and the Czech Radiographer’s Society (SRLA CR). Greece
This year the Radiological Society of Northern Greece (RSNG) celebrates the International Day of Radiology 2019 with a day course in musculoskeletal imaging, held in Thessaloniki on September 28. The RSNG is excited to organise this course where distinguished speakers from the radiological community of Northern Greece will be delivering lectures on shoulder and knee imaging. Lectures will address imaging with ultrasound and MRI. The normal anatomy and pathology of these joints will be discussed in addition to common sports injuries. The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Researchin Chennai will celebrate IDoR 2019 and World Radiography Day on November 8 with an afternoon of education and festivities, featuring a tribute to W.C. Röntgen, a key lecture and a High Tea Party.
Japan
The Japan Radiological Society celebrated IDoR 2019 with a series of public lectures at the University of Tokyo, on June 29, on the occasion of the 79th Annual Meeting of the JRS. The lectures were moderated by Prof. Shigeki Aoki from Juntendo University, the JRS2019 Congress President.
Kurdistan Association of Radiologists
The Kurdistan Association of Radiologists is holding an event to celebrate IDoR 2019 in the Grand Millennium Hotel Sulaimani, in the city of Sulaymaniyah,Kurdistan region. The event will feature a series of lectures about sports imaging; it will take place on November 8 and will last throughout the day.
Nigeria
On the occasion of IDoR 2019, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), together with the Association of Radiologists in Nigeria (ARIN), held a press conference in Lokoja, on November 9. NMA Committee Chairman on Radiation and Radiodiagnosis, Dr. Ododo Bernard, and ARIN President Dr. Kamal Jimoh spoke about the necessity of retaining doctors in the country and setting up tertiary health trust funds. IDoR 2019 was celebrated across the 36 States of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital territory.
Philippines
To celebrate IDoR 2019, the University of Cebu in Cebu City has created a series of marvellous videos where athletes from various sporting backgrounds describe injuries they have experienced, and how radiology helped them, through quick and precise diagnosis and following treatment, to return to play as soon as possible.
Saudi Arabia
The Radiology and Medical Imaging Department of the Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University in Kharj, Saudi Arabia, is planning a large one-day event to celebrate IDoR 2019. Activities include morning lectures covering trending topics such as AI’s role in radiology and sports imaging, booths targeting medical professionals and the general public with radiology awareness materials, and student activities such as competitions and scientific posters.
Slovakia

Slovenia
The Slovenian Association of Radiology, together with the Slovenian Society of Radiographers, will host a meeting with Slovenian motorcycling champion, Miran Stanovnik, who entered the Dakar Rally and sustained a severe injury. The interview is expected to cover a wide range of topics, including the use of medical imaging during all phases of his diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. On November 8, the Association’s president, Dr. Maja Marolt Mušič, and a number of MSK experts will hold a series of lectures on sports imaging at the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana.
Spain
On the occasion of IDoR 2019, the Sociedad Española de Radiología Medica (SERAM) invited experts from the field of sports imaging to celebrate radiology with a series of lectures in Madrid, on November 8. The event will take place at the Colegio de Médicos de Madrid and will include a ceremony where distinguished radiologists will be awarded the Premios SERAM and the Premios de la Fundación Española de Radiología. The Sociedad Española de Graduados en Radiología (SEGRA) along with the Francisco de Vitoria University (UFV) will celebrate this year’s International Day of Radiology on November 8 in Madrid with a programme focusing on sports imaging. They are hosting a multidisciplinary day trip involving first level figures in technique, radiological and clinic scope, and participatory patients who will illustrate the relationship between imaging and sports. Their programme includes a rugby exhibition match and a small investigation with ‘pre’ and ‘post’ data collected by ultrasound (B-mode and elastography). Tunisia
The Société Tunisienne de Radiologie and their residents branch STR Junior celebrate the International Day of Radiology this year a little differently, by practising sports together. Participants can choose from either pilates or a game of football! Both events will take place in Tunis, on November 8.
Turkey
At their 40th Annual National Radiology Congress – TURKRAD2019, which was held in Antalya on November 6–9, the Turkish Society of Radiology organised a dedicated lecture where members of their executive board spoke about the International Day of Radiology 2019. As a special guest, ESR Chair of the Board, Professor Lorenzo Derchi, initiated a heartily sung ‘Happy Birthday Radiology’ and was joyfully joined by the audience.
United Arab Emirates
A special IDoR 2019 celebration took place in Rashid Hospital, Dubai, where people from various media outlets were called, as well as the general director of the hospital and various department heads. A number of sporting activities were on offer, including boxing bag, treadmill and football. All staff were invited to join and plenty of prizes were given out for the winners.

The Royal College of Radiologists is holding a public lecture in London on November 7, with Dr. Philip Robinson, consultant musculoskeletal radiologist, and Dr. Andrew Murray, consultant doctor in sports and exercise medicine, that will address the essential role imaging plays in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries. The Medical Imaging Department of the Medical University in Plovdiv, in cooperation with the Bulgarian Society of Biomedical Physics and Engineering and the Bulgarian Society for Cardiothoracic Radiography, will organise the International Conference of Young Radiologists, dedicated to the IDoR, at the Medical University of Plovdiv on November 8.
Canada
The Canadian Association of Radiology/L’Association canadienne des radiologistes will be hosting a political event at the federal legislature in Ottawa, with Members of Parliament, to help commemorate this occasion and leading in to the International Day of Radiology.
Croatia
The Croatian Society of Radiology will hold a series of special lectures about the International Day of Radiology and in particular about cardiac imaging at the Croatian Medical Association in Zagreb on November 5.
Cuba
The congress of the Cuban Society of Imaging, Jornada Nacional de Radiología, will take place from November 8–9 in Havanna, Cuba. In celebration of the International Day of Radiology, the programme for November 8 will be dedicated to cardiac imaging.
Ecuador
To celebrate the International Day of Radiology, the Hospital Clínica San Agustín will host a series of lectures in Loja, on November 8, with special guests Dr. Gustavo Reyes, a well-known cardiologist specialising in echocardiography, and Dr. Alexander Lozano, a cardiac imaging specialist.
Ethiopia
St. Paul’s Millennium Medical College Radiology Department, in Addis Ababa, will celebrate the International Day of Radiology with a special event on November 8, in the Academic Meeting hall, with an event focusing on cardiac imaging. Radiologists, cardiologists, technologists, technicians and radiology administrators are all welcome to join the event.
Greece
The Radiological Society of Northern Greece will realise two special scientific events within the framework of the celebration of the 7th International Day of Radiology.
First, there will be a 3-day International Course on Cardiovascular Imaging on September 27–29 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Thessaloniki. Secondly, there will be a one-day course related to ‘Novelties in Oncologic Imaging’ organised in the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki on November 10.
Italy
To honour the International Day of Radiology, the Società Italiana de Radiologia Medica will dedicate the first day of its 48th National Congress (taking place in Genova November 8 – 11) to cardiac imaging.
Japan
The Japan Radiological Society celebrated IDoR 2018 with a series of public lectures in Kumamoto, on October 14. The lectures were moderated by Prof. Yasuyuki Yamashita from Kumamoto University, the JRS2019 Congress President.
Jordan
The Jordanian Society of Radiographers will celebrate the International Day of Radiology by hosting a scientific day of cardiac imaging including lectures about Cardiac CT and MRI in Amman, on November 8.
Kurdistan Association of Radiologists
The Kurdistan Association of Radiologists will celebrate the International Day of Radiology with a series of lectures on cardiac imaging. The half-day event will be held in the Erbil-Kurdistan region of Iraq, at the Rotana Hotel, on November 8.
Lebanon
Labib Medical Center in Saïda organised an event on November 7, including an educational session presented by Dr. Ibrahim Dheini about diagnostic cardiac imaging and ways to protect patients and technicians from radiation. They celebrated the International Day of Radiology with their own special IDoR cake.
Mauritius
The Radiological Society of Mauritius and the Cardiological Society of Mauritius will celebrate IDoR 2018 together by co-hosting a conference on cardiac imaging on November 11 in Port Louis.
Mexico
In Mexico, the National Heart Institute will celebrate the International Day of Radiology by posting IDoR- and cardiac imaging-related information all week.
Nepal
The Nepal Radiological Society will organise a one-day workshop on cardiac imaging, focusing on cardiac interventional procedures, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI and cardiac nuclear medicine, in the National Trauma Center of Bir Hospital in Kathmandu on November 8.
Netherlands
To celebrate IDoR 2018, the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Radiologie (Radiological Society of the Netherlands) will organise a series of public lectures on cardiovascular imaging for the general audience (including ministry, insurances, patient and medical organisations) in Amsterdam on November 8.

The Palestinian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (PAMRT) will host a big event with a series of lectures in the Arabic American University in Jenin, on November 8, to celebrate IDoR 2018.
Philippines
On occasion of IDoR 2018, staff of the Department of Radiology at University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital, together with the Philippine College of Radiology, celebrated a whole radiology week with a series of lectures for residents and radiological technologists in Manila, on November 8.
Poland
The Cardiovascular Section of the Polish Medical Society of Radiology, together with the Centre for Postgraduate Education in Warsaw and the Medical University of Silesia will celebrate IDoR 2018 by organising a two-day course on cardiac imaging for residents at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, on November 8–9. Topics are: cardiovascular anatomy, non-invasive imaging, congenital heart disease, CAD, cardiac intervention, cardiomyopathies, tumours and many more.
On the occasion of IDoR 2018 and to raise awareness of the specialty and in particular of radiation protection, the Polish Medical Society of Radiology plans to launch a special informative website for patients, inforadiologia.pl, to be initiated on November 8.

The Russian Society of Radiology will hold its Annual Congress in November in Moscow; the first day, November 8, will focus on cardiac imaging, in recognition of the International Day of Radiology.
Saudi Arabia
The Radiological Sciences Department at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, is organising a full day of education on November 8, with the morning session dedicated to educating the public, and the afternoon session dedicated to educating faculty and colleagues.
The Medical Imaging Department of Samtah General Hospital in Samtah is celebrating the International Day of Radiology with a series of lectures and a nice party on November 8.
Slovakia
To celebrate IDoR 2018, the Slovak Radiological Association will organise a half-day symposium in Bratislava, on November 9. The event is also dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the first purchase of a radiograph for the General Hospital of Bratislava in 1897. This hospital now serves as part of the University Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava.
Slovenia
On November 8, Slovenian radiographers and radiologists will celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the discovery of x-rays in the main auditorium of the Faculty of Health Sciences in Ljubljana, with an event focusing on cardiac radiological procedures. Speakers will present an overview of cardiac imaging in each modality and cardiac considerations in radiotherapy.
The celebration is organised by students and staff of the medical imaging and radiotherapy department at Faculty of Health Sciences, the Slovenian Society of Radiographers, the Slovenian Chamber of Radiographers, the Slovenian Association of Radiology and the Institute of Radiology at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana.
Spain
On the occasion of the IDoR 2018, the Sociedad Española de Radiología Medica (SERAM) invited experts from the field of cardiac imaging to celebrate radiology in Madrid, on November 8. The event, which unfolded in the Official School of Doctors of Madrid, featured talks on the history and future of cardiac imaging, with a special focus on paediatric cardiac imaging, highlighting the role played by the radiologist in this challenging setting.
Members of the patient association Menudos Corazones, which represents and helps the families of children with congenital heart disease, were also invited to share their views and experience with radiology. Prominent Spanish radiologists who contributed to the development of the discipline were awarded SERAM’s distinctions during the following ceremony.

Tunisia

Ukraine
In honour of the International Day of Radiology, the Association of Radiologists of Ukraine organises a two-day seminar on November 8–9 at Ivano-Frankivs’k Medical University in Yaremcha.
The first seminar ‘The role of technologists in modern radiology’ is for x-ray technicians and radiological technologists on November 8; the second seminar ‘The role of radiation diagnostics in ensuring the effectiveness of first level medical care’, held on November 9, is for radiologists, general practitioners, family doctors and all doctors working in primary healthcare facilities.
United Arab Emirates
The Medical Imaging Dept. of Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS) of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) will celebrate IDoR 2018 with a two-days conference on ‘Emergency Conditions Imaging and Interventions – A Multidisciplinary Approach’ at Al Ain Hospital in Abu Dhabi, on November 9–10.
On November 8, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Gulf Medical University in Ajman will celebrate the 7th International Day of Radiology, with special events and an exhibition focusing on cardiac imaging. The Royal College of Radiologists will host a public lecture on ‘Imaging of the heart’ at the RCR headquarters in London, on November 8. The lecture by Dr. Deepa Gopalan from Imperial College London will explore how rapidly advancing imaging technologies are starting to reveal new insights into the structure and functions of the heart, paving the way for pioneering treatment and management of cardiovascular disease.
To celebrate IDoR 2018, the British Institute of Radiology published a podcast on cardiac imaging, featuring a radiologist and a cardiologist from the University of Edinburgh discussing their ongoing research projects in cardiac imaging.

To mark IDOR 2017, the Armenian Association of Radiologists held a meeting at the Austrian Children’s Hospital of Gyumri, with radiologists of the Shirak region and the Chief Radiologist of the Ministry of Health as a guest speaker. The IDOR 2017 promotion week ended with a great gala dinner to celebrate the International Day of Radiology.
Austria
The European Society of Radiology (ESR) will be celebrating IDoR 2017 at its headquarters in Vienna on November 8. Joining them in the festivities will be participants in the European School of Radiology’s (ESOR) EDiR preparation courses, running from November 6 to 15.
Bolivia
To celebrate IDOR 2017 the Sociedad Cruzeña de Radiologia will hold a three-day conference on emergency radiology in Santa Cruz from November 9 to 11.
Brazil
On November 8, the Radiology Clinic of Uberaba will host an evening of lectures in recognition of IDoR 2017. Four topics will be addressed at this event: acute abdomen, thoracic emergencies, bone fractures and head emergencies. The location of this event is Bookcafe, Av. Edilson Lamartine Mendes, 536. Lectures will commence at 7:30pm, and entry will cost R$30,00.
On the same day, the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging (CBR) will hold a special online forum on emergency radiology. The forum will be broadcast over Workplace. CBR’s Workplace is a space for radiologists, which unites more than 5 thousand specialists in the field.
Canada
At Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia, the team of the Emergency Radiology section will celebrate a special event in the Emergency Radiology section of the VGH Emergency Department on November 8, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Chile
In recognition of IDoR 2017, radiologists at the Hospital San Juan de Dios de Los Andes (HOSLA), situated 80kms north of Santiago, will hold an educational activity for emergency room (ER) doctors. The activity, held on November 9, will guide the ER doctors through requests for radiological tests and what to expect from them. It will also provide an oportunity for the radiologists to demonstrate the equipment they have available and discuss a range of topics with their audience. Topics discussed will include: the uses and side effects of contrast media; radiation and its effects on health; and frequent emergency pathologies and their respective imaging correlates.
Greece
The Imaging Sector of 251 Hellenic Air Force and V.A. Hospital in Athens, in cooperation with the Hellenic Radiological Society are celebrating the International Day of Radiology 2017 hosting an event with lectures about the history of radiology in Greece, the role of the radiologist in MDTs and Emergency Radiology themed lectures. Portugal
On November 8 at 3pm, the Radiology Department of the University of Algarve Health School will present a series of lectures on the theme ‘from the x-ray discovery to the image fusion’. These lectures will chart the development of radiology, from the discovery of x-ray, to current applications in diagnosis and treatment. On the morning of November 8, the Medical Imaging Department of King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh will present a series of lectures on emergency radiology. Emergency radiologists, pediatric radiologists and emergency physicians will discuss the role of imaging in emergency radiology and how emergency radiology can improve patient care. In the afternoon, the department will set up several interactive kiosks. These will highlight the functions fulfilled by various imaging modalities.
The Radiological Society of Saudi Arabia (RSSA) in collaboration with the Radiology Department of the King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, will be celebrating the IDOR 2017 at the hospital’s main lobby on November 8. The Radiology Department at the Medical Applied Sciences College, Taibah University in Madina, Saudi Arabia, is celebrating the International Day of Radiology for the first time. A symposium focused on emergency radiology will be held by the Slovenská Rádiologická Spoločnosť (Slovakian Society of Radiology) in Kežmarok, in recognition of IDoR 2017. Also celebrated at this event will be the 120th anniversary of the purchase of the first Roentgen device within the former Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1897 (this device can be seen at the Slovak National Museum in Kežmarok, where it is part of the permanent display). La Sociedad Española de Graduados en Radiología (SEGRA) will hold its first national congress, CIMER17, from November 10 to November 12 in Alcalá de Henares.
